How is a Brand Message Like a Great Story?

October 29, 2012

healthcare marketing los angeles

The greatest storytellers could also be the greatest marketers. In tern, the greatest healthcare marketing firm in Los Angeles must employ the greatest storytellers and integrates a seamless storyline into every marketing strategy, from video and print to banner ads, blogging and social media. It’s no surprise that one of the most sought after iPad and iPhone covers happens to create the illusion of an old book. In fact, I have this cover myself. The future of advertising lies within the past; in storytelling.

Great Stories

A great story will withstand the test of time. How is that possible? How is it possible that a story written in the 1800’s can resonate with the ‘must-have-now’ readers of today, who can’t spend a few minutes in the bookstore and would rather have books instantly downloaded via mobile devices? That same person who cannot wait more than 10 seconds for a book to download is still interested in reading a book from hundreds of years ago.

A great story is authentic, consistent, relevant in terms of emotional connection, personal and entertaining. A great story will suck the reader in so that they are immersed in the scene, friends with the characters, and become a part of the story.

If you think about it, marketing is not that different. Healthcare marketing success depends on authenticity, brand consistency, relevance, trust and a bit of entertainment. The brand message, or story, must be consistent across all platforms, just as a story must remain consistent throughout chapters. The brand must be genuine and authentic with it’s message, just as a novel must be true and sincere in order for readers to believe it.

A story has a clear route, where the reader is not lost in confusing storylines or characters, and it makes a promise to the reader that it will stick to the purity of the characters and path. A brand must have a clear message, uncomplicated across all platforms, remaining consistent with their promise.

FastCompany.com points out the one of greatest stories ever told was only six words: “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” – Ernest Hemingway
