Leadership Lessons From Stuart Weitzman

The truly great leaders are those that continue to learn and grow throughout their career. They also value passing on that knowledge and those lessons learned to aspiring entrepreneurs. That holds true for Stuart Weitzman, the founder and chairman emeritus of the Stuart Weitzman shoe company. He started designing footwear while in college and working at his father’s shoe factory in Massachusetts. Then in 1986, he launched his company under the Stuart Weitzman brand and now Stuart Weitzman footwear is sold in more than 75 countries. In 2015, Weitzman sold his company to Coach Inc. for $574 million, and as part of the deal, he stayed on as a shoe designer. Today, Weitzman enjoys passing on his knowledge to students at the University of Pennsylvania. Recently, he shared his thoughts with me on entrepreneurship, brand identity and the creative process.
